Complaints

If you wish to make a complaint about anything relating to the school, you should speak first to the class teacher. If the complaint cannot be resolved at this stage, then one of the Leadership Team will arrange a meeting to agree a resolution. Following this, a meeting will be held with the Head teacher.

If after this process a resolution has not been agreed, the complaint will be handled by the Governing body.

If you wish to make a complaint about anything relating to the Education Authority, other than about the school, you should contact ‘The Director of Learning’ who is based at County Hall North in Chichester. If you are still not satisfied or would like more details please refer to the County booklet, ‘Information for Parents’, which can be obtained from school.

Charges for School Activities

There is very little for which you can legally be charged for at school. For further details please refer to the County booklet ‘Information For Parents’, which can be obtained from school.

From time to time the school may ask for voluntary contributions for off-site activities such as riding and swimming or school visits. School does not discriminate between those who contribute and those who are unable.

Confidentiality

Manor Green Primary school employees, those who work here as part of their training, volunteers and visitors will be responsible for maintaining confidentiality at all times.

No personal information may be divulged to other parties without reference to the Head teacher. Professional discussions within school should be carried out with discretion and sensitivity.

Unauthorised Absences

The school’s attendance record is excellent at 92.01%. The 7.94% authorised absences during 2013/2014 and 0.04% unauthorised are reflective of our pupils’ special needs, their hospital appointments and sickness.

School Clothing

policies-1The school uniform is compulsory. We would recommend that each pupil be dressed for school in shoes and clothing that are uncomplicated in style, and which will enable the individual to dress/undress as independently as possible.

All pupils are expected to wear a school sweatshirt, which is bottle green and embroidered with the school logo, black or grey trousers/joggers/skirt and a white shirt/blouse and black shoes. In warmer weather polo-shirts, shorts and green gingham dresses may be more appropriate. Parents are asked to label all items of clothing.

The school uniform is available to purchase from Taylor Made Uniforms who can also be contacted on 01403 250644.

For reasons of hygiene and safety pupils will need to change for PE lessons into plimsolls, a white or green t-shirt and green or black shorts. Parents/carers are asked to provide a drawstring PE bag that is labelled. Jewellery is not permitted in school.

School reserves the right to forbid any personal belongings which could be considered to be unacceptably dangerous or against the interests of the pupils at large.

Equal Opportunities

policies-2The whole ethos of our school contributes to a general awareness of equal opportunities and multiculturalism. All staff are involved and have a part to play in this process.

An effective policy for the school can only be achieved by raising awareness and continued review of good practice. The school has a social, moral, cultural and spiritual policy which can be viewed at any time.

School Meals

We have been awarded a Healthy School Status. The achievement recognises our whole school approach to learning, particularly within the Personal, Social and Health Education sections.

policies-3As such, we offer a highly nutritious and good value for money lunch time menu. This is planned and cooked freshly on site by our own school cook. We cater as far as possible for all specialist dietary requirements.

We are part of the National Free Fruit Scheme for Schools, all pupils are offered fresh fruit and milk at snack time each day and are encouraged to taste a variety of healthy foods as part of our commitment to a healthy lifestyle.

We are a NUT FREE school.

Pastoral Care and Parent Partnership

policies-4The school sees the importance in developing and strengthening the parent partnership. The aim of the school is to promote a close working relationship between home and school and to foster a feeling of community throughout the school.

One of our Assistant Headteachers is responsible for family partnership. She may make visits when and where required.

Two of our Higher Level Teaching Assistants – Julie Tucker and Jan Smith –  have the responsibility for co-ordinating and strengthening our partnership with families.We offer a supportive environment for parents and carers to come into school to meet.

We also offer a variety of workshops including topics such as signing and working with challenging behaviour. These will be advertised on our weekly newsletter throughout the year.

The school organises three consultation meetings in the academic year and parents/carers are expected to attend their child’s statement review which is held annually.

Teachers are expected to communicate with parents and carers on a daily basis using the home/school books. Parents and carers are asked, as a minimum, to sign the book on a daily basis to acknowledge receipt of the book.

The school is also supported by a Friends Association who raise funds for the school. The committee is always looking for new members.

Discipline

Discipline in the school is not a major issue and can most accurately be described as that which would be exercised by any caring parent/carer.

The majority of disciplinary issues are tackled in a positive manner, whereby staff focus on and celebrate individual strengths and achievements. Negative behaviour is discouraged unobtrusively to negate any attention seeking behaviour.

The school has developed a behaviour policy, which gives strategies for dealing with challenging behaviour and a mechanism for record keeping.

If a child requires a behaviour programme, parents and carers are asked to attend a support meeting to agree the aims of the programme. Parents/Carers are also asked to sign and keep a copy of the behaviour programme.

Sex Education

Sex education in the school complies with the requirements of the Education Reform Act 1994 and the school curriculum aims to:

  • Raise students’ self esteem and confidence, especially in their relationships with others.
  • Help students to understand their sexual feelings and behaviour so that they can lead fulfilling and enjoyable lives.
  • Develop skills, language, decision-making, choice, and assertiveness that are necessary in a range of situations.
  • Promote acceptable and appropriate behaviour in public and private situations giving practice of strategies, which reduce the risk of exploitation, misunderstanding and abuse.
  • Provide knowledge and confidence needed to be an active member of society.

Special Educational Needs Policy

As a school catering for pupils with learning difficulties and additional needs, we recognise the uniqueness of every pupil.

We also acknowledge that each pupil has special educational needs. The needs of all our pupils will be met through the delivery of a curriculum, which embraces the National Curriculum and the Foundation Stage curriculum and through an individual education plan and close liaison with families, professionals, other schools. Through this we intend to ensure that all our pupils make rapid and sustainable progress.

The annual review process ensures that we are meeting the unique needs of our pupils and have equal access to a broad and balanced curriculum. Any modifications to the statement including the need for specialised equipment and activities are provided where necessary.
