Little Acorns Class
The Early Years Unit is led and managed by Claire Archer. It caters for nursery and reception aged children. The classroom provides a bright, child friendly and stimulating environment where learning takes a play-based approach, with elements of structured activities. The pupils have a mixture of individual, small group and class sessions.
Little Acorns has a free flow between the indoor classroom and outdoor environment. Each child has their own learning journal that documents their progress and achievements throughout their time in the foundation stage. The journal uses a combination of pictures and observations from both school and home.
The Early Years Department at Manor Green follows the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage profile—a curriculum for children aged 0-5 years.
The unit is led and managed by Hannah Harberd. Each member of staff is a key worker and they are responsible for tracking the delivery of the Personal Learning Journey.
Pupils are placed in chronologically aged classes and follow the national curriculum which is modified and personalised to meet their needs.
Each class has a vibrant learning environment that promotes teaching, learning and creativity. Each class has shared access to an outdoor classroom, to extend learning opportunities.
Children in Lower School access the curriculum in an exciting, engaging and creative way, delivered by high skilled class teams. Personalised activities such as rebound therapy, hydrotherapy, soft play, light and sound and horse-riding are offered to some pupils.

Ash, Cherry, Magnolia and Willow Classes
Katie Paddock is the Lead Learner for the Specialist Classes for pupils with additional needs.
At Manor Green we understand that children with ASC achieve their potential and feel happy when their environment, learning, communication and routines are structured and personalised to meet their individual needs.
We believe that consistent approaches to teaching and learning, structured classroom environments and cross-curricular use of visual supports enable the pupils to be independent and engage in learning.
Every child in these classes has a complex learning need and as such requires a high level of personalised learning with a higher staff to pupil ratio. The activities throughout the school day are structured around a highly individual and personalised timetable which is child led and tailored to the child’s needs.
Children in specialist classes follow a curriculum that is relevant, broad and balanced to their needs. Each class follows a thematic approach to teaching and learning which changes half termly. The classes follow the same themes and topics as the generic classes in each year group.
The curriculum focuses on four key areas Communication, Core Subjects (English, Maths and Science), Foundation subjects and Physical, Personal and Sensory Development.
In addition children have access to a multi-sensory programme including use of the light and sound room, sensory circuits, outdoor learning environments and soft play. All children have personal, social and emotional targets which help develop skills in expressing and exploring likes and dislikes, high interests and friendships with others.
Individual children are assessed by the Occupational Therapist for sensory integration programmes which are implemented through-out the school day. Hydrotherapy and rebound are key strategies used to develop physical, social and communication skills.
Upper School Department

The above classes make up our Upper School Department. Pupils are placed in chronologically aged and mixed ability classes. All classes follow the National Curriculum which is personalised to meet children’s individual needs. The classrooms are set up to provide a safe and stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on creativity and cross-curricular learning. Educational visits, topic based theme days and participation in whole-school events are also used to maximise learning opportunities through memorable experiences.
