Attendance at full GB meetings: 6/6
Interests: Going to the gym, music, cricket, football, speedway, family and friends, writing, making people smile, campaigning and making a difference locally for parent/carers and the children and adults they look after, ensuring Ryan has the happiest life possible and escaping for a nice, cold pint with Hubby when respite allows!!
Other associations etc: I’m Chairperson of Autism Support Crawley, a completely voluntary parent/carer led parent/carer support group for people looking after a child or adult with Autism or a Social Communication Disorder, with or without a diagnosis. We are currently helping to support over 600 families within the RH postcode catchment area. We run coffee mornings, evening meetings, fundraisers and social events and we also have a very active closed Facebook page which is a lifeline to so many parent/carers who feel isolated. I work closely with many local service providers and WSCC to improve services for our families. I also write a monthly column voluntarily for The Crawley News titled ‘Living With Autism,’ which diarises our life caring for Ryan and talks about all the challenges we face and triumphs we celebrate. I sit on the Crawley Disability Forum panel to again help improve services locally. With Ryan’s help I was able to succeed in bringing specialist supermarket trolleys to our local Sainsburys which have been rolled out nationally in every store. I then moved on to Tesco and Morrison with success. My two latest and current projects are bringing a ‘Relaxed’ performance of this year’s Panto ‘Peter Pan’ to The Hawth for the VERY first time and bringing a much needed fully accessible and inclusive Changing Place facility to Crawley Town Centre, so very soon we won’t have to change our loved ones on dirty toilet floors anymore.
